holiday assignments can sometimes be considered as vast... and maybe vain? But they do serve a purpose, that is to keep us in touch with the syllabus... come to think of it, if we hadn't wrote a single essay nor read a single book throughout the whole holidays, what would be the consequences like when school reopens? dire? On the other hand, it is said that too much stress is induced on we students. We claim that we have many CCAs, many activities, camps, chalets... and the list just goes on n on n on.. It can be true... it might not be... but what i expect of a holiday is very simple: some meaningful things to do, some enjoyment, and most importantly, some people to chat with and to spend time with. It may seem easy acquiring all these, but on the other hand, difficult. I admit, that throughout the holidays, i've been rather slack. since the china trip ended, the only thing that i rushed through, is the china project. which after, my engine had been turned off. Due to the fact of my injury, i've been lying at home doing practically NOTHING, and really, nothing at all. just sat at home play com, sleep and slack around. Not even to mention exercise, which i can't really do at that time. All these seems to take up much time.. But eventually, i'm on my way to the end of the holi homework, which eventually doesn't have an end at all... But one of the things i noticed, about the holi homework, is the chi book, qi gai jian zai. Before reading the book, i tot its gonna be a boring one, till xy told me it was interesting. i started on it, and its a book about a boy having to be a beggar when he was 4 n worked as one for 17 years. all the years of roaming around with his blind father and mentally affected brother and mother plus all his siblings, and being the eldest, he had to take care of everything, from going out to beg for money all the way to helping out at home, since his father was blind, the responsibility of carrying the family thus fell on him. Besides that, he had to bear with all the criticism and insults threw to him when begging for food. There was no way he could retaliate since he was the one begging for food. And before he started school, his sister was sold to a brothel, for the sake of him due to the school fees and family fees. He thus worked hard as his sister was his encouragement, and he knew his sister(elder) had sacrificed herself for the family. He thus worked hard in school. Besides that, he also got insults @ school by the seniors... getting insulted everywhere, anybody living in modern society would be sure to retaliate, but he didn't. he thus achieved many awards, from calligraphy to painting to studies and to sports. He earned respect from his classmates, but acquired jealous looks from his seniors. Same thing again, he was insulted. Besides that, being from a beggar family, people looked down on him, but still, he took it by his stride, and the best of it was his father, despite being looked down, did his part for society and treated people who will ill for free, not accepting a single cent. eventually, the author had a stable life after working very hard and settled down with his wife.

Not everybody can actually withstand the insults and abuses, whether physical or mental, by people. Modern society is too advanced, hardly anybody recalls the hardship that the past generation has gone through. One obvious factor is the moral values. It really covers a lot. In the past, filial piety was perceived as very important, and most of the children are obedient to their parents, and rather than that, help out in the family and even go out to work. In modern society, one can easily see a parent losing control over their child, too much freedom is given, and their child just goes astray. One factor is money, so much money is given to us that we spend it as if we earned it. i dun deny, i too, am guilty of doing that.. all those branded stuff, handphones, wallets, shirts, computers, games... in the past, not any of these things existed, if one were to buy these with their own salary, there would be nothing wrong with that, but nowadays, parents are too worried for their children and save much money for their children till the extent that they replace time with money. the children thus do not know how difficult money is earned; they may see their parents very relaxed when they knock off from work, but the fact is, the outside world is far more complicated than in school, much more stress is induced... the battle for authority especially.. Nowadays, children also do not participate much in housework, which mostly falls onto the parents' responsibilities. I dare not say that i participate all the time, but i would try to eventually change my lifestyle.. being able to help in housework helps relieve parents' workload.. coming to 'parents' this, parents that, some kids may complain, parents are human, aren't we human too? its actually subjective, but compared to the past, where parents just hit their child and scold without receiving retaliation, we nowadays are living in a very lucky situation.

Only those who have really experienced insults and hardships can really benefit from it, rather in character or personality. The art of tolerance can't be belittled, and the results of these tolerance can be well desired...
